The Rocinante is such a powerful ship because it is everywhere actually doing things. Other warships are part of navies. They take fleet action. The Roci instead takes individual action. They don't have support but don't have to share credit or ask permission. It's the only warship the Belters have. Even though Holden would deny that fact.

So TV Roci is more of an appropriate size for a larger "Corvette-class Frigate", which also makes the average martian crew size for it more appropriate as well. 46m is a bit small for the 20-30 people that ship is supposed to hold, IMO. Especially since the reactor and drive are large sections of the ship where people can't be.

The thing that makes the Rocinante (and ships in the Expanse setting in general) unique and cool is their tower-style orientation. It makes so much sense that they're designed that way. The only other ship I can think of with the same kind of charm and sense of being a character is the Serenity from Firefly.

The Spanish roots are Rocin=workhorse & ante=before, which might mean 'once a workhorse'. In the show, his Mother mentions, when talking to Avasarala, that James’s favorite book was Don Quixote.

Apr 24, 2017 · Honestly, windows are not very useful in real space battles. You are engaging the other ship at such vast distances that a tactical display can provide way more information than looking out the window ever could. Whenever you see openings large enough on stations that they could be windows, they are still likely just really big displays.
