I think, like a lot of things on this car, the warnings are a little premature. Just keep driving with it and drain out the key battery...worst case is, you pop the actual key out and open the door/start the car that way.

It can only be used to unlock/lock the doors, glove box, and trunk. You must use the Intelligent Key to start the car. I doubt the Intelligent Key will work at all if you removed the battery.
