If the key fob uses 2.45GHz - you could try pointing it at a microwave oven leakage tester just to see whether anything happens.

Dec 23, 2014 · The problem with a key-fob system is that there is no broadcast when the button is not pressed so you have noise of any amplifed signal - especially if the board has an AGC amplifier seeking the weakest of signals (may be present, may be not). In any case, your best bet is to filter the output, not the input.

If you have a DMM you might be able to get away with just a detector diode and small filter cap arrangement but these things probably transmit less than a mW, so you may need a tank also. If you want a self contained LED arrangement a tuned MPF102 JFET would make an acceptable front end. This could drive a BJT or two to light the LED.

Apr 14, 2016 · Just had a second key fob go down. Had a 4 pack of 1632's. The battery in the fob read 2.92 volts unloaded and 1.9 volts under load. I'm convinced that battery is dead. The 4 pack - they were sitting at 2.9 volts but under load they dropped down to 1.4 volts. I guess the cheap batteries don't have much of a shelf life.
