In a district demolished a century ago in the Tulsa Race Massacre and rebuilt from the rubble, state Rep. Monroe Nichols declared victory as the first Black Tulsan elected as the city’s mayor.

Monroe will also be Tulsa's first Black mayor. He gave his acceptance speech in front of images of Black Wall Street in the days before the Tulsa Race Massacre.

We are less than a month away from Mayor-Elect Monroe Nichols being sworn in as Tulsa's 41st mayor. He and G.T. Bynum held a joint news conference Thursday afternoon about the transition of power. Bynum said he wants to make sure Nichols has everything he needs to be successful.
