Common Indian drugs that sell like hot cakes off the counter, including Paracetamol (500 mg), Vitamin C & D tablets, Shelcal, anti-diabetes, and high-BP medicines, have failed quality checks by the Central Drugs Standards Control Organization (CDSCO).

The drugs found to have failed quality tests include Paracetamol IP 500 mg, Pan-D (an antiacid), Vitamin B complex and Vitamin C softgels, Shelcal (Vitamin C and D3), the anti-diabetic drug Glimepiride,

Central body CDSCO declared Paracetamol, Pan D and 51 other drugs ‘not of standard quality’ in its monthly quality check report.

Over 50 drugs including paracetamol, Vitamin D supplements, pantoprazole, antibiotics and blood pressure medicines have failed quality tests conducted by India’s drug regulator Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO). CDSCO in its August alert named 53 drugs of non-standard quality made by different manufacturers.

The drug regulator has released two lists of medicines that failed the quality test. One list contains 48 medicines. While the other list contains the names of 5 additional medicines.
