The climbers were at Pine Creek on Christmas Eve when a storm passed through and they could not keep going. Because of the high winds, search and rescue were not able to rescue them. The climbers stayed overnight.

A man, also in his 80s, who was driving the car in which the woman was travelling, was also seriously injured.

An 84-year-old woman died in a crash late Christmas night in west Las Vegas, police say. The crash happened near Buffalo Drive and Spring Mountain Road around 11:09 p.m. Investigation by police revealed that a 46-year-old man drove east on Spring Mountain approaching Spring Shower Drive in a Camry.
