Parents and educators are receiving notifications about the breach, but it’s still unclear exactly how many people have been affected or what information was leaked.

In an FAQ obtained by TechCrunch, PowerSchool confirms it negotiated with the threat actors responsible for the breach.

PowerSchool Holdings Inc. is facing three federal lawsuits alleging the education software provider negligently failed to protect the personal information of students, parents, and teachers that was exposed in a December data breach.

In an e-mail sent to Twin Falls School District parents, the system provider PowerSchool was part of the cybersecurity incident on December 28, 2024. The Twin Falls IT departments have been reviewing the access and as of now it doesn’t appear that the Twin Falls School District information was accessed.

New Trier said the data that was accessed included names and school ID numbers. No current students' Social Security numbers were accessed, but some former students' were.

School officials learned of the “potential cybersecurity incident” on Tuesday, Needham Public Schools Superintendent Dan Gutekanst said in a statement.
