The Shomari Figures win on Tuesday might still play a pivotal role in the House majority, which might not be determined until later this week.

With the victory by Shomari Figures, Alabama will most likely have two Black representatives in Congress at the same time for the first time in its history.

Alabama has elected Democrat Shomari Figures to represent Alabama's redrawn 2nd Congressional District, making him the first Black American elected to the seat, according to incomplete, unofficial results. With about 96% of the votes in, Figures had 156,622 votes compared to 130,568 for his Republican opponent, Caroleene Dobson.

Shomari Figures, a former aide to Attorney General Merrick Garland, is projected to win his House race in Alabama’s newly redrawn 2nd Congressional District, according to Decision Desk HQ. His victory gives Democrats a rare pickup opportunity in a ruby-red state that former President Trump won by 25 points in 2020.
