Detroit City Council on Tuesday approved an ordinance to create buffer zones for protesters at health care facilities.

The proposed ordinance would create two types of zones. Anti-abortion activists protested the policy at a committee meeting, saying it goes too far.

(CBS DETROIT) - The city of Detroit is considering limiting protests near health care facilities. Supporters, including some abortion rights advocates, say it would improve safety for those seeking medical care, while critics argue it infringes on free speech rights.

While the ordinance would apply to any health care facility in the city, supporters say it’s most needed at clinics providing abortion services. Abortion rights opponents call it a violation of their First Amendment rights.
