The terminology, in typical Germanic fashion, is a little confusing. The entire system is called "Panoramic iDrive," with “Panoramic Vision” being the funky horizontal band display across the whole dash; meanwhile, the all-new software the whole enchilada runs on is named “BMW Operating System X.”

BMW is rolling out its new Panoramic iDrive system, which has been developed to help revolutionize the in-cabin experience of its vehicles.

First seen on the Neue Klasse Vision concept in 2023, the updated infotainment setup will be backed by BMW's newest operating software, which the company is calling X.
