Koch and co-star Nicholas Chavez discuss with IndieWIre their takeaways from playing two convicted killers and the mixed reaction to Ryan Murphy's latest true-crime tale.

The centerpiece of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's dramatization of the Menendez murders was filmed over two days, as Koch's Erik Menendez details the years of sexual, physical and mental abuse he claims drove him to patricide.

For each of the two days they shot The Hurt Man episode of Monsters, Cooper Koch performed four run throughs of the continuous shot (meaning he did it eight times in total). He described the experience as “exhausting.”

"It was really, really powerful and emotional," says the actor who portrays the convicted murderer in the controversial Netflix series of the face-to-face meeting.

Erik Menéndez wants to watch Cooper Koch's portrayal of him — specifically in the critically acclaimed episode The Hurt Man — despite publicly denouncing Ryan Murphy's Monsters. Koch, 28, recalled speaking with Menéndez,

"I understand how difficult it would be to have the worst part of your life be televised for millions of people to see," Koch said
