By Foo Yun Chee BRUSSELS (Reuters) -EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager scored two major wins on Tuesday as Europe's top court backed her crackdown against Apple's Irish tax deal and Google's anti-competitive practices in two landmark cases.

Google-parent Alphabet lost a case with European Union’s top court Tuesday that it violated antitrust laws and will have to pay a hefty fine. Separately, the court upheld a ruling that Apple owes Ireland $14.

Apple and Alphabet’s Google lost attempts to overturn multibillion-dollar rulings in the EU, as authorities there continued efforts to rein in alleged abuses by big tech companies.

The European Union's highest court hit Silicon Valley's top two tech giants ordering Apple to pay Ireland $14.3 billion in taxes and fining Google $2.6 billion for abusing its market position for shopping searches.
