Several new pieces of legislation will take effect across Texas on January 1 bringing in a raft of new laws across the state.

The first day of the year marks a new beginning. It also means new laws, many of which were approved in the 88th Legislative Session and will go into effect on Jan. 1. The new laws usher in the end of safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles and new data protections, among other changes.

With the new year approaching, several new laws will take effect on January 1, 2025, such as the end of safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles and the collection and use of a consumer's personal data. The bills were approved in the last legislative in 2023.

Starting Jan. 1, Texas drivers won't be required to get their vehicles inspected in order to renew their registration.
