MOBILE, Ala. ( WALA) - Shomari Figures claimed victory Tuesday night, in the race for Alabama’s newly drawn second congressional district. Figures, who went up against Republican Caroleene Dobson, earned 54% of the vote, with the majority coming out of Mobile.

Joining Figures in the House as Alabama Representatives is Democrat Terri Sewell, whose 7th District win gives Alabama two Black representatives for the first time in its history.

As of 10:25 pm, with sixty of Alabama’s sixty seven counties reporting their vote tallies, NBC News is projecting that Democrat Shomari Figures has won the State’s newly redrawn Congressional District two.
