With T.J. Oshie now out with the same sort of chronic injury that sidelined Nicklas Backstrom nearly a year ago and after an offseason of roster turnover, the Capitals opened camp Thursday looking like a much different team than the one that squeaked into the playoffs and got swept in the first round.

Washington Capitals winger T.J. Oshie is expected to go on long-term injured reserve this season because of chronic back problems. The team announced Wednesday that Oshie will be listed as injured at the start of training camp after undergoing his medical exam.

The Washington Capitals will be without longtime alternate captain T.J. Oshie when they take the ice for the first training camp practice on Thursday. The organization announced that the right winger would likely start the 2024-25 season on the long-term injury reserve.
