On the behalf of ownership, executive board member and three-time Giants World Series champion Buster Posey took over negotiations with Chapman himself as frustration grew over the "lack of immediate progress" between Zaidi and agent Scott Boras,

Giants' ownership identified extending Chapman as a priority. When negotiations stalled, Posey went to Chapman directly to come to a deal.

Matt Chapman has been one of the Giants' few bright spots in a disappointing season. The team rewarded him with a six-year, $151 million extension.
