Texas officials on Wednesday outlined preparations for the winter storm set to hit much of the state this week.

As winter weather moves into Texas this week, many are having flashbacks of 2021. Is the state's power grid ready for another winter storm?

This is different than in February 2021 when the there was a days long winter storm across the state. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the frigid temperatures lasted days in mid-February, with highs above freezing only once between Feb. 10 and Feb. 18.

NORTH TEXAS – North Texas is bracing for a mix of snow and sleet. A winter storm warning went into effect Thursday morning and continues until 12 p.m. Friday. The warning includes Denton, Collin, Dallas and Tarrant counties.

The winter storm is beginning to get underway in the western half of Texas this morning, where it's producing a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain, as depicted in the radar snapshot below. This wintry weather will only become more widespread through the day as it heads east toward northern Texas,
