A resident alerted Chennai Police of a suitcase through which blood was dripping. A woman's dismembered body was found. Police has arrested one accused.

Residents of Kumaran area near Mettukuppam, Thoraipakkam, first noticed a foul smell emanating from the spot on Thursday morning.

According to police, during the interrogation, the accused, Manikandan, revealed that he murdered Deepa, a sex worker, using a hammer after a quarrel broke out as she was demanding more money from him.

The woman, who has been identified as Deepa, 32, hailed from Chennai’s Manali area. According to media reports, after conducting investigation into the incident, police detained a 23-year-old man named Manikandan, who resides 100 metres from the location where the suitcase was found, India Today reported.

The body of the woman was found after the police got a call around 5:30 am about a suitcase lying abandoned in Chennai's Thoraipakkam area, with blood coming out of it.

A body of a woman was found in a suitcase dumped in Chennai this morning, police said. The police believe she was murdered somewhere, and the luggage was dropped in a residential neighbourhood near the IT Corridor in Thoraipakkam.
