Auroral activity is forecast to increase on Christmas Day, with NOAA forecasting a Kp index of five and a viewing line encompassing a few more regions than Christmas Eve’s forecast, including northern New England, northern New York and northern Iowa.

Northern Lights are expected to dazzle skies on Christmas in the United States. The colorful auroras might be seen in multiple northern US states. The northern lights are one of the most spectacular natural phenomena on our planet and commonly occur within the so-called "Aurora Zone".

The northern lights have been dancing with increased frequency over Europe's skies in late 2024 as well as appearing much further south than usual. Thanks to a peak in solar activity, the celestial phenomenon will continue to be particularly active into 2025.

Major U.S. metropolitan areas including those of Milwaukee, Minneapolis and Seattle are north of the projected viewline, while other cities including Buffalo and Detroit are just south of the predicted cutoff for seeing the lights. The northern lights may be visible in almost all of Canada, including Calgary, Montreal and Toronto.
